Jim Platt is the Chief of DHS’s Strategic Defense Initiatives and has over 15-years of experience developing and leading risk management efforts with national and international implications. Jim leads DHS’ efforts related to Position, Navigation and Timing, Electromagnetic Pulse, Space Weather and Space. He serves as the co-chair of the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agencies’ (CISA) Space Systems cross sector working group which synchronizes space related security and resiliency efforts between the public and private sector. Prior to joining DHS, Jim served as the Chief of Staff for the Director of Operations, Readiness and Mobilizations, HQ Department of the Army. During this assignment he played a major role in establishing the Army’s Cyber and the Army Protection Directorates to address emerging cyber and physical threats. Jim’s education includes a masters degree in leadership from Georgetown University, an MBA from Virginia Commonwealth University and a Management and Computer Science degree from California University of Pennsylvania. He is also a graduate of the Senior Managers Course in National Security Leadership from George Washington University.
