Lynn Allen is a scientist in Optical
Engineering for Civil and Commercial
Imaging (CCI) Systems within Harris
Corporation’s Space and Intelligence
Systems Segment. Space and
Intelligence Systems offers complete
Earth observation, weather, geospatial,
space protection, and intelligence
solutions from advanced sensors and
payloads, ground processing, and
information analytics.

Allen is an accomplished leader, manager
and engineer with more than 30 years of
experience, delivering excellent results
in business and product development,
manufacturing, and engineering. His
responsibilities include leadership
and accountability of new business
development and capture for Civil and
Commercial Imaging Systems, for both
exquisite space and ground-based large
optical systems. He assumed the position
in 2017, reporting to the director of CCI
business area.

Previously, he served as senior
manager of the Precision Optics
organization, accountable for all
aspects of operations, including optical
fabrication, testing, processes, facilities
and equipment, and support of new
business capture for all business areas
of the greater SIS business segment.
Allen’s prior positions include
manager of Operations Engineering,
and manager of Rochester Assembly
Operations. He joined Harris in 1981
as a development engineer and
progressed through various assignments
with increasing responsibility.
Allen developed and implemented
the Ion Beam Figuring (IBF) process,
the recognized gold standard of
deterministic finishing processes for
mid to large-size optical components.
He published six technical papers
related to the IBF process, development,
implementation and results achieved.
He is a member of SPIE, - the
International Society for Optics
and Photonics.

Allen has a master’s degree in mechanical
engineering from Walden University,
and a bachelor’s degree in ceramic
engineering from Alfred University.
