Moderator: Closing Session: Space Leaders Forum on Navigating the Fractured Geopolitical Landscape

Dr. Jonathan Ward is the Founder of Atlas Organization, a consultancy focused on the rise of India and China, US-China competition, and the new geopolitics of Asia. Dr. Ward is an internationally recognized expert on Chinese global strategy and India-China relations. He completed his PhD at Oxford, specializing in China-India relations, and has traveled widely in China, India, and across the Indo-Pacific, a region spanning two of the world’s major oceans, the Indian Ocean and the West Pacific, from the Persian Gulf to the South China Sea. Dr. Ward has consulted for the Pentagon on Chinese long-term strategy and began consulting on China and India and the changing geopolitics of Asia in 2013 for Oxford Analytica, the UK’s leading political risk consultancy, where his reports were dispatched to clients around the world. He speaks Russian, Chinese, Spanish, and Arabic, and spent ten years overseas before returning to the United States to found Atlas Organization. He has lived in Russia, China, India, Latin America, Europe, and the Middle East. Dr. Ward is a frequent invited speaker on China and India for international audiences. He has presented to military and government audiences (incl. U.S. Strategic Command, U.S. Naval Academy, U.S. Navy Asia-Pacific Advisory Group, U.S. Army War College, U.K. Ministry of Defense), leading think tanks (incl. Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, Center for Strategic and International Studies, East and West Center, Economic Research Council, RAND Corporation), Fortune 500 companies, and for public, private, and university audiences.

He has presented on Chinese military space and nuclear policy at US STRATCOM, the US Army War College Strategic Studies Institute, and Lawrence Livermore National Laboratories, among other venues. His work on Chinese space and nuclear strategy was selected for the Center for Strategic and International Studied PONI Capstone Conference in 2018. He is a member of the 2018 Next Generation National Security Leaders Program at the Center for a New American Security in Washington DC, and a former Visiting Academic at the University of Oxford China Centre. He is currently at work on a book about Chinese global strategy and its consequences for the United States.
