Dr. Bruce Chesley is the vice president of business development for Boeing's Space and Intelligence Systems (S&IS) business unit, and the customer-facing business development director for the Intelligence community for Boeing Defense, Space & Security. In this role, he oversees all business development operations, personnel and budgets for this multibillion-dollar business involved in national security, military navigation and communication, civil and commercial space and intelligence programs. Chesley was named to this position in December 2013.

Previously, Chesley served as the Director of Advanced Space & Intelligence Systems, part of the Boeing Phantom Works business unit. He led a Phantom Works team that developed next-generation satellites and advanced mission capabilities for the Space & Intelligence Systems business. His research and development programs focused on designing, building, testing and operating new technologies and prototypes for small satellites and special missions.

Chesley had previously been in S&IS as Director, Experimental Systems Group and Architecture Studies. He was responsible for mission analysis and architecture evaluation as well as advanced experimental missions and programs. He has also held positions in program management, business development, and engineering in S&IS and the Electronic and Information Solutions business unit.

Chesley joined Boeing in 2000 after serving in the U.S. Air Force. His Air Force assignments included positions at Air Force Space Command, the National Reconnaissance Office, and the Department of Astronautics at the U.S. Air Force Academy.

He earned a doctorate in aerospace engineering at the University of Colorado, Boulder. He also holds a Master of Science degree in aerospace engineering from the University of Texas at Austin and a Bachelor of Science in aerospace engineering from the University of Notre Dame.

An author of more than twenty technical articles and book chapters on space systems engineering and satellite design, Chesley is a senior member of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics and a member of the American Astronautical Society.
