Speaker: Making Earth Observation Data More Accessible and Commercially Actionable

Dr. Nico Spyropoulos has over 26 years of experience in Earth Observation (EO) and SatCom (SC) industries, working at IIS-EOSAT Inc., Space Imaging, Definiens (founded by Prof. G. Bining, Nobel Laureate in Physics 1986), COSMOTELCO, 5CI, UrtheCast & Earth-i in business development, sales & marketing including project management. His unique talent is to transform R&D activities into operational, profitable and self-sustaining products and services. His project management portfolio includes wide experience in the development and exploitation of EO and SC missions. He is also focusing how to “bring EO - SC down to earth” by delivering benefit to various communities and adapting experience and knowledge towards the development and planning of new space missions. He has been also involved in several R&D projects of European Commission such as DG-XI, DG-XII and DG-XIII, ACTS, ESPRIT, IST, Life+ covering image processing/GIS for environmental liability, geospatial intelligence, telematics, situation awareness and decision support systems.
He has received his BSc & MSc in Land Reclamation and Water Resource Engineering from Athens University, MSc in Remote Sensing from University College London and Imperial College and his PhD in Remote Sensing from the University of Athens. He has been RS/GIS lecturer at University of Athens and Joint Research Center - JRC Ispra.
