Moderator: The New Face of U.S. Export Controls on Satellites and Spacecraft

John A. Ordway has practiced law for over twenty five years, primarily in the fields of export control and government procurement law. Mr. Ordway represents and advises satellite manufacturers, satellite operators, space underwriters, NASA contractors, systems engineers, law firms, and manufacturers of satellite subsystems, parts, and components.

Mr. Ordway is presently Chairman of the Federal Bar Association Government Contract Section’s International Procurement Committee and a former co-chair of the ABA International Section’s committee of the same name. Mr. Ordway is also currently an Advisor to the Center for International and Comparative Law at the University of Baltimore School of Law.

Mr. Ordway speaks and writes frequently on the ITAR and government procurement, and has been quoted in Satellite Week, The Space Review, Asian Times Online, Communications Week, Aviation Week & Space Technology, Space News, as well as in other publications. Mr. Ordway’s most recent publication is a chapter on sourcing product overseas for sale to the U.S. Government in NAVIGATING THE GOVERNMENT CONTRACTS PROCESS: LEADING LAWYERS ON EXAMINING RECENT TRENDS IN GOVERNMENT CONTRACTING AND UNDERSTANDING THEIR AFFECT ON CLIENTS (ASPATORE BOOKS 2010 ED).

Mr. Ordway received his J.D. from George Washington University Law School, and his B.A. from Harvard University. Between college and law school, Mr. Ordway studied Mandarin Chinese in Hong Kong and Taiwan on a Rotary Graduate Fellowship.
