Speaker: Beyond the Chart: Understanding and Providing Care for the LGBTQ Population

Kristen Vargo, DNP, RN, NE-BC is a nurse manager for the Pediatric PACU and Same Day Surgery at Cleveland Clinic Main Campus in Cleveland, Ohio. She holds a board certification as a nurse executive and is an active member of the Greater Cleveland Organization of Nursing Executives (GCONE). Prior to her position in perioperative services, she was a staff nurse and assistant nurse manager on a 73-bed cardiac and heart failure step-down unit. Dr. Vargo completed her Doctor of Nursing Practice degree in 2019 from Chamberlain University College of Nursing.

The last several years, Dr. Vargo has worked on several projects to enhance patient experience, patient safety, and nursing practice in the perioperative setting. She recently assisted in implementing measures to improve patient experience for transgender patients in the preoperative units at Cleveland Clinic. Her doctoral work was focused on understanding facilitators to music listening for preoperative patients.
