Moderator: AMA (Ask Me Anything): Words of Wisdom From PACU Leaders

Janet is a personable and knowledgeable veteran Nursing Director with more than 30 years nursing experience (25 years in Perioperative leadership / management roles). In her current position as Nursing Director of Post-Anesthesia Care at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, MA, she manages five individual PACU’s and one post-procedure observational unit. These six units are spread over three buildings, and four floors. Construction is underway to open an additional 10-bed PACU.

Of particular interest, Janet transformed two of her PACU’s (48 bays) to a surge ICU to respond to the Covid-19 pandemic.

She is responsible for 300 staff divided into five specialized nursing teams, all skilled to work in any of the six units.

Janet has presented at OR Manager on various topics such as: Regional Block Program, Ambulatory Surgery, IV Procedural Sedation, and PACU management. She has also consulted in China to open a PACU and improve PACU practices.
